Call for Minister Humphreys to consult social action groups on the ground in relation to rural housing

Minister Heather Humphreys should consult local social action groups with experience providing housing in rural towns and villages. Heather Humphreys That’s according to Jerh O’Donoghue of Rathmore Social Action Group, responding to reports Minister Humphreys plans to offer first time buyers incentives to live in the centre of provincial towns. Rathmore Social Action Group is currently engaged in converting the old Presentation Convent and the adjoining National School into residential accommodation for the Sisters and senior citizens. The project will cost €1.5 million – the group have raised one million so far – no grants are available to them and they have to pay up to €300,000 in VAT payments to the Government. Mr O’Donoghue says Minister Humphreys should consult social action groups, such as the one in Rathmore, with experience in this area. [audio_player src=””]
