BSE case detected in Kerry herd

The only case of BSE this week was in a ten-year-old suckler cow in Kerry. The number of BSE cases so far this year is just over half those identified this time last year. 40 have been confirmed, down from 76. Meanwhile, the ICMSA in the county has reacted to the CSO figures on farm income. They show that farm income is up to 76 million euro in 2004 while milk sales for farmers is down by 15 million. The ICMSA says this is not reflective of the economic difficulties faced by farmers.
