MEP for the South Brian Crowley is the best known Irish MEP in the country, according to a recent pole. In his Munster constituency one in three people can name him as a member of the European Parliament, this compares to one in ten for fellow MEP for the southern area Fine Gael`s Simon Coveny. Brian Crowley joins Mary Lou McDonald, Avril Doyle and Mairead McGuiness in passing the 10 percent recognition rate. However they fail to reach a recognition level above 15 percent at national level. According to the pole the majority of mep’s appear to have been forgotten by the electorate a mere 12 months after their high profile electoral campaigns. The pole conducted by Lansdowne Market Research interviewed a nationally representative sample of 1000 people by telephone in May.
