The Bishop of Kerry says he wasn’t condemning anyone when he made his controversial remarks during the Chrism Mass last Easter. In his first statement on the matter, Doctor Murphy says he was challenging what is becoming a large section of the Catholic population. During his homily to the Priests of the Diocese last April, Bishop Murphy said it doesn’t make any sense if a couple who are not believers ask for a church wedding. In an article in the summer edition of Lumen, the Bishop describes the media coverage as mixed, but says people who contacted him were positive and supportive.
