Beaufort man pleads guilty to discharging firearm and endangering life

Tralee CourthouseThe jury has been discharged in the case of a Kerry man accused of endangering the life of his daughter’s former partner, after the accused changed his plea to guilty. Martin Clifford of Glencuttane, Kilgobnait, Beaufort was also accused of recklessly discharging a firearm outside his home on New Year’s Day, 2014. At Tralee Circuit Criminal Court yesterday, prosecuting counsel Tom Rice said the accused, Martin Clifford, injured his daughter’s former partner outside his home in Glencuttane on January 1st 2014. The court heard that 33 year old John Foley of Boheshill, Glencar, Beaufort suffered an injury to his right hand side and had to undergo surgery at Kerry General Hospital. Yesterday Martin Clifford denied both counts of discharging a firearm and endangering life, but today he changed his plea to guilty. Judge John Hannan discharged the jury today and thanked them for their service. Sentencing has been arranged for May 11th.
