Beaufort man leads campaign to buy Ernest Shackleton memorabilia

A Beaufort man is in London today where he is leading a campaign to buy memorabilia dating back to the time of explorer Ernest Shackleton. A number of items belonging to Shackleton are being auctioned today at Christies but Mike O’Shea, who now lives in Dingle, is afraid they might be bought by private collectors from other countries. Kerryman Tom Crean travelled with Shackleton to the South Pole and Mike O’Shea believes it’s essential that the items are sold to an Irish buyer.
