An Ardfert man who was detected by gardaí smoking a heroin joint has been ordered to make a voluntary contribution of €600 to the court poor box. Brendan Carmody of Sackville, Ardfert pleaded guilty to the possession of diamorphine at 40 Casement View, Ardfert on October 3rd. His solicitor Pat Mann said the 31-year-old carpenter happened to be at that address when the gardai called there on another matter. He said, unfortunately, he had been smoking a joint at the time. He has no previous convictions. Judge James O’Connor adjourned the matter to to the April 13th sitting of Tralee District Court.
