Homeless charities are calling for action after the latest homeless figures show one new family became homeless every day in February. The data from the Department of the Environment show more than 3,100 people were homeless in the last week of February, when the general election took place. That’s an increase of almost 3 per cent in just one month. 600 of them were single parents – almost 1,900 were children – and over two-thirds were in Dublin. Homeless campaigner Fr Peter McVerry says the new Taoiseach needs to urgently prioritise this issue.
