The price of agricultural land in the county has risen by over 20 per cent in the last 4 years. Figures released today by the central statistics office show that farm land in Kerry is now selling at an average of over 5 and a half thousand euro per acre. The price of agricultural land in Kerry peaked in 2001 when it made almost 6 thousand euro per acre. During the last year just over 100 farm land transactions were made in the Kerry and Cork. This includes both sales by auction and by private treaty. The average price per acre was just over 5 thousand 6 euro which is a significant increase on 1999 when the per acre price of land sold was 4 thousand 6 hundred. The central statistics office figure for the price of Kerry farmland in 2003 is just 4 per cent below the national average. Countrywide the statistics show that land price last year was 7 per cent up on 2002.
