Additional funding for Wild Atlantic Day welcomed by Kerry tourism groups

Wild Atlantic WayKerry tourism interests have welcomed the commitment of an additional €100 million for the Wild Atlantic Way and Greenways, outlined in the Programme for Government. The programme acknowledges the development of the coastal route as ‘one of the biggest achievements in revitalising tourism’. The Government says the additional capital funding will take the Wild Atlantic Way to the next level, including an Atlantic blueway route and the Ireland Way. A commitment has also been given for further investment in developing a Greenway network and to double the funding available for the Rural Walks Scheme from €2m to €4m. Chairman of Go Kerry, Pádraig Hanrahan, says the Wild Atlantic Way is the first initiative to address the decline in towns and villages along the west coast. He says it has particularly helped seaside towns like Ballybunion and any commitment to further investment is welcome: [audio_player src=””]
