40% increase in fires in Kerry in 2015

There was a 40% increase in the number of fires in Kerry in the 12 months to the end of November 2015 compared to the previous year. fire tender Kerry Fire & Rescue Service recorded 1122 mobilisations in response to 993 incidents in the 12 month period compared to 1034 mobilisations in response to 917 incidents in 2014. The dramatic increase was largely down to a 120% increase in the number of gorse fires in Kerry during the same period, one which threatened Killarney National Park. There was also at 15% increase in the number of chimney fires in the county. However it wasn’t all bad news, there was almost a 27 % decrease in the number of road traffic accidents.
