Around 30 Kerry water supplies have been included on an Environmental Protection Agency list of schemes needing improvements. The Remedial Action List includes nine supplies serving a population of over 60,000, which are highlighted for inadequate treatment for cryptosporidium or elevated levels of chemicals known as trihalomethanes. These include Lough Guitane, Lisarboola and parts of the Central Regional supply. Works are due to be completed on these schemes by December 2017. Elsewhere, supplies were included in Kerry for having no cryptosporidium barrier and having trihalomethanes failures.
