1916 events in Kerry this weekend

1916 KerryEvents are still taking place to mark the centenary of the 1916 Rising. At noon in Gleann na Ginnte, Ballymacelligott,  there’s a commemoration to honour Robert Monteith, who landed on Banna Strand with Roger Casement. Captain Monteith’s grandson Dr Charles Cushing wil be honoured at the event. Camp Community Council is holding a festival commemorating 1916 this weekend. At 1pm tomorrow in Tralee, there will be a 1916 Commemoration Parade. The group will assemble at Basin View. Tomorrow, a plaque will be unveiled at the Crown Hotel to commemorate Castleisland volunteers. Also taking place tomorrow evening, Kerry Comhairle na nÓg is holding a Reeling in the Years 1916-2016 fashion show in the Ashe Hotel, Tralee. Captain Patrick O’Connor will be remembered for the part he played in the 1916 Rising in a musical drama ‘Patrick’ which is being performed in the Rathmore Community Centre, starting tonight. At  7.30 tomorrow evening, Kerry Choral Union will perform pieces by Patrick Pearse, Joseph Mary Plunkett and Thomas Ashe. For more details and events, go to www.kerry2016.ie
