162% rise in house prices between 1996 and 2002.

The average price for a home in the county rose a massive 162% from 1996 to 2002. That`s according to figures released by Young Fine Gael who are calling for an end to housing tax. The average cost of a house in Kerry in 1996 was almost 68,000 euro, last year that figure had risen to in excess of 192,000 euro. As it stands, a perspective home owner can pay up to 45% in taxes and levies to the government and local authorities.
