A total of 13,000 patients were treated in Tralee General Hospital last year according to the Southern Health Bord annual report. The report shows the average stay is six days and the hospital ran at 82 per cent occupancy over the year. In its annual report the Chief Executive of the Bord says they managed within budget for the 11th year running. He says this was achieved despite a cut in funding.Attendances at outpatients reached almost 43,000 last year and A & E attendances reached over 31,000. There were almost one and a half thousand births at Tralee last year. The release of the annual report comes in the wake of a letter campaign by consultants at Tralee complaining of a lack of funds at the hospital. Writing to North Kerry TD’s Dr Tom McCormack said bed closures planned for this summer in order to keep the hospital within budget will create longer waiting lists.
