13% of Kerry’s population is disabled but many more are dealing with the issue of disability on a daily basis. That’s according to John Dolan who is running as an independent vocational candidate in the Seanad elections for a seat on the Administrative Panel. Mr Dolan is standing on the issue of disability inclusion and currently serves as the CEO of the Disability Federation of Ireland. He says in Kerry, of the number of people with a disability of working age, only 31% were at work compared to 62% of people without a disability. 23% of Kerry people with a disability did not finish second level education compared to about 16% of those without a disability. Mr Dolan said that these are frightening statistics that need to change.
