Up to 10 hotels in the county are to participate in a new environmental programme. The project which is being run by the Irish Hotel and Catering Institute promotes environmentally friendly activities like energy management and waste reduction. Chief Executive of the institute Adrian Cummins says they are trying to bring about a change of culture within the hotel industry. He says with recent increases in energy costs this programme will be able to reduce costs at participating hotels. A conference to discuss the issues involved is scheduled to take place in The Great Southern hotel in Killarney in early April.
